VIC: Three people airlifted to hospital after Phillip Is crash

MELBOURNE, April 17 AAP - Three people have been airlifted to Melbourne hospitals after a
four car pileup on Phillip Island, south-east of Melbourne.

A police spokeswoman said four people from two of the vehicles were doctors and ambulance
officers who were uninjured and able to give first aid to the crash victims.

She said the people airlifted had been in a Magna sedan which had been travelling south
along Back Beach Road.

At the intersection with Berry's Beach Road the Magna and a Toyota Hilux travelling east
collided with such force the impact pushed the Toyota into the path of two vehicles travelling
west along Berry's Beach Road.

The spokeswoman said the five occupants of the Magna - two men, two women and a teenage
girl - were all injured.

Three were airlifted to the Royal Melbourne and Alfred hospitals, and two were taken by
ambulance to the Wonthaggi hospital.

The male driver of the Toyota, its sole occupant, was also taken to Wonthaggi hospital.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
