Vic: Philip Nitschke detained at Melbourne Airport = 2

Dr Nitschke was waiting in a customs queue ahead of boarding a flight to New Zealandwhen he was asked to accompany officers to a side room.

"I was pulled out of the queue by customs and told to wait because they wanted to takematters further," Dr Nitschke told ABC Radio.

"I've got no idea what that means but it's obviously yet again to do with the supposedtaking out of devices that might assist in suicide in contravention of these new customsregulations the federal government has brought in."

Dr Nitschke said he was going to New Zealand on a speaking tour and did not have anysuicide devices either with him or in his luggage.

It is the second time Dr Nitschke has been stopped by customs officials at an Australian airport.

In January, customs officials at Sydney's Kingsford Smith Airport seized Dr Nitschke'scontroversial death machine from his suitcase before he boarded a flight to the UnitedStates.

Officials also confiscated plastic "Exit" bags from his luggage which he planned toshow at a conference in San Diego.

At the time, Dr Nitschke said he was told the machine and plastic bags contravenedthe Prohibited Exports Act which prevented the export of items relating to suicide.
