O'Reilly Media, which publishes books on a variety of subjects for the publishing and computer industries and organizes similarly focused conferences, announced the launch of Found, a new conference for search developers. The first Found conference, which will be held June 9-11 at the San Francisco Airport Marriott hotel in Burlingame, Calif., will be targeted to website and search engine developers. "Found will be the authoritative place to ... gain a thorough understanding of why search-friendly architecture is mission-critical to businesses of all sizes," according to the O'Reilly announcement. "Found will change how developers create web applications so that search will connect their sites to their potential customers."
Several existing conferences address portions of the search marketplace including Infonortics, Ltd.'s Search Engine Meeting; Third Door Media's Search Marketing Expo; and ITI's Internet Librarian and WebSearch University. According to Vanessa Fox, co-chair of the Found conference, not many of the existing searching conferences focus on developers, and many marketers say that their biggest difficulty is communicating market needs to developers.
The Found conference will be designed to bridge this gap by featuring sessions and case studies on the following:
* How search engines work and why search is important
* How to architect pages so they can be crawled to their maximum potential
* Dealing with technology platforms and languages
* Building search engine optimization (SEO) into the development process
* How to make rich internet applications searchable
