MEXICO CITY, Sep 26, 2003 (Cronica/Corporate Mexico by Internet Securities, Inc. via COMTEX) -- While Mexico's trade balance results from the first half of the year show that it retains its trade surplus with the United States, its trade deficit with China is growing. During the first half of the year, Mexico imported US$4.66 billion of Chinese goods.
Mexico registered a trade deficit with China of US$4.36 billion, while posting a US$22.95 billion surplus with the United States during the first six months of 2003. The value of imports from China were equal to 50% of Mexican oil exports during this period.
According to information released by the Bank of Mexico for the January to June 2003 period, China is the second largest exporter to Mexico at the moment, after the United States. Third on this list is Japan, followed by Germany, South Korea and Canada. During this period, Mexico exported only US$301 million to China.
